Banda Aceh, InfoPublik – The Aceh Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK) held a meeting of the Aceh Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation Task Force offline and online at the Kriyad Hotel in Banda Aceh, Thursday (30/6/2022).
Head of DLHK Aceh A Hanan, represented by Head of the Aceh Wildlife and Human Conflict Mitigation Task Force Agus Arianto, in his remarks said that the meeting was a follow-up to Aceh Governor Decree 522.51/1519/2020 on the Amendment to Aceh Governor Decree 522.51/1097/2015 on the Establishment of the Aceh Wildlife and Human Conflict Mitigation Task Force, as an effort to encourage the effectiveness and efficiency of handling wildlife conflicts that must involve cross-sector parties in Aceh.
The Task Force Team has the duty and function of assisting the Governor of Aceh in overcoming conflicts between humans and wildlife that occur in Aceh, he said.
He also said, based on compilation data from the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Center in the period 2017 to 2021, there were 344 human-elephant conflicts, 76 human-tiger conflicts and 109 human-orangutan conflicts.
It also means that the intensity of animal-human conflict in Aceh is still quite high.
“Conflicts can cause material losses with the loss of people’s livelihoods. On the other hand, it also threatens the survival of Aceh’s wildlife as part of the wealth of biodiversity and at the worst level can cause casualties,” he said.
He hoped that the meeting would result in an agreement and procedures for handling wildlife and human conflicts in Aceh as a reference for related parties in handling wildlife conflicts in Aceh in accordance with their respective authorities.
